Jupiter’s Mark Mulligan is reporting that AllOfMP3.com has finally been shut down by the Russian authorities, just in time for the Bush / Putin bilateral talks, helping ease entry to the WTO. But points out that the exact copy, created by AllOfMp3.com’s owners has appeared at Mp3Sparks.com. My Alltunes account still seemed to be working yesterday.
As Mulligan hints this does smell of a convenient slight of hand to appease the US, as legally speaking surely it would need to be the courts that close down allofmp3, and no Russian court has called for it to be closed down. I still think that yahoo! should come in and buy the company behind the site, as when all the majors agree to go DRM free (not far off) this site will be the ideal ready platform to sell music from.
