The European Commission has published it call for input on the review on the 2002 communications framework directives (Framework Directive, Authorisation Directive, Access Directive, Universal Service Directive and the Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications), including review of the Recommendation on relevant markets. The Commissionis seeking views on the strengths and weaknesses of the framework, the what extent it has achieved its objectives, and how it could be improved. In particular the Commission is seeking views on topic such as (i) if the framework allows for changes in technology and convergence of those technologies, (ii) whether consumer protection and users rights be extended or strengthened in any areas, (iii) whether the process of authorisations is the best model for licencing; (iv) what are the changes required to the current regulatory package concerning the management of the radio spectrum; and (v) is consumers provacu adequately protected under the directives. A public workshop is provisionally planned for Tuesday 24 January 2006 in Brussels. The workshop will be open to all interested parties, but prior registration is required. The deadline for imput on the review is 31 January 2006.
