Tom Brake introduced a 10 minute bill today to amend the FOI Act:
“That leave be given to bring in a Bill to amend the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to remove the provisions permitting Ministers to overrule decisions of the Information Commissioner and Information Tribunal; to limit the time allowed for public authorities to respond to requests involving consideration of the public interest; to amend the definition of public authorities; and for connected purposes.”
This, no doubt follows on from the decision by the government to appeal to the High Court to get the decision by the Information Tribunal (itself upholding a decision by the Information Commissioner) requiring the government to release two gateway reviews conducted on the ID Card scheme, overturned. The goverment have already wasted a load of cash on this silly scheme already, so have obviously decided why not waste more tax payer money taking it through the courts. Remind me again who the government are meant to be accountable to?
Of course, maybe the government just have a problem with ex CC employees??
