Following similar verdicts in Finland and Sweden, a Dutch judge has ruled that dutch distributors can not longer continue to sell Lindows. In a judgement in favour of Microsoft the judge also prohibited the use of the name LindowsOS and Lindows.com.Microsoft claimed Lindows OS and Lindows.com are confusing, as they are similar to it’s Windows software. Dutch distributors now have 8 days to stop reselling and advertising Lindows. An even bigger surprise was that the judge ruled Lindows.com must also ensure that their site is inaccessible for people browsing the Internet from any of the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) countries. The main trademark case is due to take place in the US courts later this year, where Lindows will attempt to persuade the Courts to invalidate Microsoft’s trademark on using the word Windows.
