Beer for All Seasons: A Through-the-Year Guide to What to Drink and When to Drink It
Pub Date: Feb 18 2015
Beer and reading? Two of my favourite things combine in Randy Mosher’s book. [ is it wrong that for a UK reader the author’s name conjures up the vision of a horny teenage metal fan?]
This no-nonsense book pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin, as the saying goes. After a brief history of beer and beer styles we take a trip through the season with what types of beer naturally suit or derive from those seasons (or specific holidays – Thanksgiving, Easter, Mothers day! – followed by some recommendations of specific beers to try out (mostly American) and additional information on some of the key global beer festivals that fall in each month.
It’s a quick and enjoyable read and a book that can be dipped in and out of as seasons pass. I liked the occasional injection of humour too, such as ‘Best beers to drink whilst wearing leather shorts’.
It would have made a great stocking filler for the beer lover in your life if it had come out before Xmas. That it didn’t is a bit of a shame but birthday gifts could do just as good.
