Tom Gibson, a 24-year-old Londoner has apparently broken the world record for continuous television watching. Gibson managed 47 hours and eight minutes, beating the previous record of 47 hours and 16 seconds.
And for anyone thinking of trying to beat the record, I have just the programme for you. Satellite channel UKTV Style, responding to many TV viewers now saying they’d rather watch paint dry than see another reality TV show, have decide to give them what they want – a new reality show called Watching Paint Dry. The show, which the television channel says could bring about the end of reality TV, will be available 24-hours a day (from today) on the web. Viewers will be able to watch a different kind of paint dry on an empty wall each day. They’ll also be able to vote for their favourite paint.
According to the site the programme is the “first reality show to do exactly what it says on the tin. Every day a different kind of paint will be put on to a wall. Confirmed contestants include; matt, silk, gloss, satin, vinyl, eggshell textured and smooth masonry – all of whom are eagerly looking forward to their first brush with fame”.
